    Talking So here he is......

    Hi,

So we were able to pick him up from the Breeder today and once we got him home I took some pics. The breeder said he is a normal het for pastel so if I ever breed him I have a chance to get pastel balls. He was really shy until he had been in his tank for 5 mins ever since he has not stopped exploring!!! I swear he is trying to find his way out too. The only thing is he has not gone into his hide, im not too sure if he hasnt found it yet or doesnt care to look for it right now. Any way here are some pics:

Hope you like him, and any suggestions for names would be great since I have never named a snake!!

    Thanks
    Sabrina

P.S. I apologize if this show up twice I was having computer issues!!!

Pastel is a co-dom trait. There isn't a 'het for pastel'. Did the seller say "pastel sibling"?
It's a very nice looking normal. I name all my snakes with people names. Sam, or Thomas... he looks like a Thomas.
    Congrats on your new snake!

He said the father is a normal and the mother is a pastel so you have a chance of getting pastels. I havent read up on Python genetics yet but knowing about leopard gecko morphs I wonder what he meant then?

    Re: So here he is......

Generally speaking, if it's got a pastel gene, it looks pastel. If it gets two pastel genes, it looks like a super pastel.
Since yours looks normal, it did not get the pastel gene, and therefor is not a pastel, or a carrier of pastel genes.
If this is not correct, I'm sure someone will jump in here.

If you breed him to a pastel female, you will get pastels!

What your saying is that your snake is a pastel sibling, basically a normal from a pastel x normal breeding. If he said it was het pastel then he has mislead you. Any documentation?

I hope he didn't charge extra for that!!

If that's what your breeder told you, then your breeder lied to you. There is no such thing as het for pastel.

Since pastel is co-dom - a pastel is technically a het for super pastel.

This link may help you to understand the genetics of a co-dominate mutation like a pastel.

    and more specifically:

You got a nice little normal ball male ball python. I hope that the breeder didn't charge you extra for him.

He looks nice. I wouldn't worry, my girl didn't go in her hide for about 48 hours after bringing her home (she actually just sat on top of them, flicking her tongue around inside of them every now and again).
