ok , whats up here..is my snake just plain stupid?

the other day i fed my snake 2 F/T mouse, the first one he ate no problem. Moving on to the second one he managed to tag himself in the process. he caught one of his lower teeth on his skin, right where the color meets the yellower area on his belly. it stretched and i could easily tell he knew he tagged himself. It took me helping him slightly to free him and there was no damage that i could see, no blood or fluid comming out so i guess were lucky. But im genuinely starting to wonder...between the bad shed and this feeding accident, whats up here?

bad shed? does he have retained eye caps by chance? if so, his eyesight probably isn't as good as it should be. did he completely miss the mouse? mine struck at a mouse when it was on him once and he caught a few of his own scales by mistake, but he got the mouse, too!

My snake tried to eat himself one time. He wrapped up his mouse and after he felt the mouse was dead, he started swallowing. Somehow he managed to bite himself during the process.



He let go once he realized what he was doing.

no, all his shed is off, though i had to help him...twice. as far as eating and striking, he really has never missed. the only thing different about this feed was he had the mouse wrapped up longer than he normally would.

I have had 2 snakes bite themselves. One of my corns had smelled the mouse on him, so he went right ahead and chomped down, but he felt the pain and came off..lol. Then my ball was just feeding, and when she finished the rodent , her top jaw closed on her body.

If you had to help the snake shed its not because he couldn't do it himself its because you didn't provide the right humidity to let him shed himself in one piece. Next time he goes blue make sure your humidity is around 70%.

I've had a snake strike itself once, its not a common thing though.
