    Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"

As much as I enjoythe whole balancing trapeze act with a dish full of water, lifting it out of the tank evenly without spilling can become a task sometimes. Causing humidity problems...minor but there must be an easier trick to it.

I was thinking of using a brick sponge to set IN the dish to absorb some then lifting it out of the tank.

Any other suggestions? A syphone? (spelling)

Since i am guessing alot of us change the water in dishes everyday.

    Thank you!,

hmm...i dont think i will have to post a pic of the water dish but hey, i just might! lol

    ...don't fill it so full...

...for as often the water SHOULD be changed...there's no reason for filling a waterbowl near full...but then again...you could be using a tiny dish

Maybe just don't fill the water bowl all the way to the top? Or am I missing something?

I also only fill the bowl maybe 3/4 full at most. This also helps prevent the snake from 'splashing' any out.

When changing water, it's usually down low so there's no spilling as I take them out. I dump and rinse in hot water (they get totally cleaned twice a month), then wipe the dish and put it back in the enclosure. I fill them IN the cage with a water bottle.

Best dishes to use are wide, heavy, and low, so you don't have to fill it really full.

Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"

well that was easy, 1/2 full would help instead of 3/4. lol, i kno i`m still gonna spill some.

i think a brick sponge would cure my dillemma....i have a distance to walk with that water dish & corners to bump into...i think that added to it ...doh! lol

I dispensed with standard water dishes some time ago. All my drawers now have a 5 inch PVC sleeve cut to fit a standard 16 oz deli cup. When I change water the deli cup is tossed (recycled) and replaced with a new one, eliminating the chore of dishwashing and disinfecting dishes, while assuring pristine water!

The shape of your bowl probably has something to do with your problem... most of my bowls are pretty tall in proportion to their width, but I know they make wide shallow bowls as well that spill very easily. Just be careful, or fill the bowl after you put it in.

Re: Share your "Water-Dish removal ways"

Don't use a sponge! They harbor bacteria like nothing else, and it would just add to your chores to disinfect it constantly.

Why don't you have a bucket or 'dumping container' of some sort and a jug of fresh water with you when you change water? That way you can do it all right there and just dump out the bucket when you're done.
