What size RHP would you reccomend for a 2x3 or 2x4 RBI Cage? The 50watt or 80watt?? Im buying one of those and cant decide on what size RHP to get.
I would call Rich at reptile basics to be sure because it depends on several factors such as cage size and room temp. If I had to guess, probably the 40W (RBI) for the 2x3 and probably an 80W for the 2x4. Pro-Products also makes RHP's but they don't even sell them online until you call or email and get a recommendation for your particular setup.
I myself am in the market for a few of these and I can't decide which manufacturer to go with. Tuff decision...RBI's are quite a bit less expensive but they are still the new RHP in town. Pro-Products are very pricey but are time tested and I have never heard anything but great reviews from them. Hmmm.
My Daughters name all the animals...
0.1 BP - Normal (Seviper)
0.1 RTB - Normal BCI (Ekans)
0.0.1 GTP - Merauke (Carnivine)
0.1 RTB - Suriname BCC (Sand Ma'am...a.k.a. Sandy)
0.1 RTB - Anery BCI (Onix)
I have the 80 watt RHP's in my RBI 2x3 cages. My ambient temps needed boosting and so this was the logical choice based on my situation. I set the t'stat to 88F and the cages are all heated perfectly.
I second the thought that you might want to call or email Rich and describe your environment and needs and allow him to suggest what will work best for you. Rich is a top notch guy and really knows his products well.
As for being new to RHP's, I disagree. He is not new to them and has been in the business for 25 years. He only now has begun to market his RHP's as an alternative to flex watt and UTH's in situations where UTH's and flex watt are not sufficient or are not the very best thing for the species of snake that is being kept.
Anyway, give him a call and he'll be able to help you to determine what will work best for you
