Hello I am new to this site and am going to talk alot, ha....
First off I'd like to say hey to everybody else who also have a passion for snakes, I am a newb as far as talking to outside sources about my two pythons, I have owned them for going on 3 years now they are healthy luckily. I have pretty much done everything on a whim as far as owning two snakes go, with not much outside sources I like animals and have a basic knowledge of them, but I have done many things improper in the time I have owned the two of them, such as, never using night bulbs , they naturally became accostomed to me either turning off their light or just simply keeping it on 24/7 and my room being dark. Also in the past my bulb would burn out and I have gone anywhere between 1 to 2 weeks without a light I had a heat pad and kept the caged top mostly covered to keep somewhat heated, they did not seem to mind the low temps, they were still friendly to hold and rarely even slept under the rock where the heat pad was, again I try to always have a backup bulb though. Another error I made was not always keeping them seperate during feeding time, after the first few feeds, I was young and foolish learned quickly, seperation during feeding is best. One snake would always try and attack the other, the dominant snake usually. Thing is it's hard to tell which is dominant, I read that females are usually dominant but not quite sure. I've never kept them apart, I keep them in a 30 gallon tank, there rarely apart, unless one is sleeping under the rock via the heat pad and another is in the wood hides in the cool side of the aquarium.
I read that loud music bothers them I wasn't really sure on that a while back, I used to hold them and walk around my house frequently around my neck and wrists, while eating, watching tv, listening to music whilst cleaning the tank, various occasions they were around loud vibrations and music you get the gist, but they were startled at first now they don't move at all or seem even remotely bothered by it. My first year of owning them I regretfully had a sub right by their tank in which I frequently listened to music loud! But they never got overally concerned some moved their heads awkwardly up and down side to side and moved about alot, but now nothing at all. They've never been aggressive except during feeding time, never been bitten, they have been out doors quite a bit once even in the winter but I had them in a bag with a small portable generator and proper heating pad with shirts and what not, anyways I'm rambling one other thing that definitely couldn't have been good, my buddies used to come by on occasion and light up a few umm.. Well not ciggarettes so you know and the room was properly ventilated so the snakes took no mind, but overall I just wanted to throw all the details out there so you could give me your overall impressions on if there is anything negative or positive to say I'm all ears, I won't be offended I know up till now I've been lucky in alot of cases, the worst mistake I've made well the two worst letting them bite each other due to the improper feeding choices and the low temps in the tank for that short period, oh they have gone two to three weeks without eating, usually a two week period minimum they have always done so and are used to it, I do feed them 4 to 5 inch rats so anyway any reply would be much appreciated, sorry for the long list of details and such, I would just like to leave off although I have made a long list of mistakes they are healthy non aggressive and I treat both like I treat any other pet I own with tlc, one is aventerous it has escaped on occasion and always tries to venture anyway thats something totally different, my regards...
