Helix drift

When I incubated my first clutch, I was happy to see that the helix and my Brinsea incubator themometer read the same. I saw 89 on both.
I bought the Brinsea ater the frustration of having 4 thermometers with 4 different readings.
Now(2 months later) I have to set the helix at 88 to get a reading of 89.5.I doubt that the glass thermometer has changed.

I know its not a big difference. I wonder how far it (the Helix)will drift, and if there is a way to recalibrate?

Personally, I wouldn't even use those kinds of thermometers. They can be misread easily, and it looks like you only have one? If it were to break it could kill all of your eggs if the temps messed up as well. Id get multiple digi thermometers and a temp gun for now on to take incubator temps

The only way I've heard of to recal a Helix is to have the manufacturer do it. As for using the older fashion thermometer goes I really do not see a problem with it as long as you double check it. I have an old mercury one that is still accurate and I have had it checked several times. It is good for a reference, but I don't use it in any enclosure that has a snake or eggs in it. I only use it to set up the enclosure and if it ever broke that enclosure would be done for as well due to mercury contamination. Yours looks to be Galinstan type which from what I have found are not accurate, but at the same time is significantly less toxic as it is used in medical thermometers for that reason.

Ok...thanks for the advice. BTW the glass thermometer I am using has a range of 80 to 105. It also is stored in a clear plastic tube.It is made for incubator use.

Here's a clutch I just hatched at 89 degrees using the glass thermometer as a reference. 10 eggs 7 spiders 3 normals. I don't think it's off by much,if at all.

This one is kinda cool cuz it has an alarm that wiil go off if it the temp is over your max. I set the alarm at 90, the Helix is set at 88,the glass thermometer reads 89. I'm happy.The eggs are happy.
