    Yet another question.... ventilation

Just curious how many holes you punch in your tin foil on top to get adequate ventilation / oxygen down in there to our friends. I have some punched on the cool side and some punched on the warm side. I made some little plastic 'slides' that I can move to adjust how many are open.

The issue seems to be if I open it up to make sure he's getting plenty of 'air' my temps drop. and my UTH won't seem to get the warm side up past 89. The thermostat is steady on trying to heat it back up but it just won't.

I have 3 layers of tin foil (shiny side down) on the screen top. I also put foil over the zoomed UTH on the bottom and then put foam board over that under the bottom. I have a small 3" strip of flex heat tape under the cool side with a rheo on it, also plugged into the thermostat. I have it adjusted to where it pretty much stays 10 degrees cooler than the warm side.

I just want to make sure he is getting enough oxygen down in there!!

Well welcome to another Mississippian. When I was using a tank I simply had a square for my light and a square on the other side about 8"x8" that seemed to work very well.

Holy Cow!!! I'm starving him for oxygen then. I've just got some holes poked in the tin foil. Nothing as big as an 8x8 hole. Poor guy....

Where you at here in MS? I'm in the Terry/Byram area just south of Jackson. Would be great if you know of a place to get feeders locally!

Well I am in Brandon.. LOL Cornerstone Reptiles in in your area. However I breed my own feeders as my collection is to large to try and buy feeders. The best place I can tell you to go is the Fish bowlin Ridgeland I help and Cornerstone helps supply them with their feeders.

On a twenty long I use about twenty or so holes at each end. Each hole is about 3/8 of an inch. I found that it also helps to put the cool end holes way at the end in a row and the warm side holes further in. Also, I put a few more holes in the warm end than the cool end. This really creates a nice airflow in the tank.

Wow... wish I had known that. If I get another.... I'll be coming over there! I may stick with frozen.... I hate to drive all the way out there once a week for a mouse. Will cost me more in gas than the meece purchase. ha

PM me if it's ok if I come see your collection one evening.
