Unhappy Baby Red Tail escaped today...

My baby red tail boa Rambo just got out of his cage... I have no idea how, his tub is a sterilite with locking handles and 3 bunjee cables holding it in the middle... I can hardly open it without unhooking the cords.

Anyways, hes lost in my room, I dont think he can get under the door and get out. Theres less than 1/8" under the door between the door and carpet.

He was in my closet, closet has 3 shelves and he was in the middle shelf, about 3' off the floor. I searched the closet and corners and walls of the room, hes nowhere to be found.

I folded up a big heating blanket and put it on the floor under his cage, put b so I can hear him, and put a thawed mouse on a plastic bag next to the heating pad.

Any other suggestions on what I can do? Hes only 3 months old and I really dont want him to die. Hes my first RTB and I've grown pretty attached...

I pretty much have to find him asap.
The reason he was in the closet is because my mom hates snakes and makes my adult ball python stay in the garage until my new cages come in 3 weeks... Mom doesnt know I have the boa... haha. If she finds him before me I might have to look for an apartment. If I find him first... everything will work out.

At night, sit and listen for any sounds of it slithering over something and hope it will take the mouse...Good luck!
I'm not afraid of snakes, because I got Balls!

ANYTHING you have in your closet.
Laundry bins, drawers, shelves, boxes. I found my ball in between two metal plates meant to catch seed from a parrot cage! I don't know why because that's awfully cold but it seemed save to him.

Don't forget to scrounge your room. If your closet door was open then look everywhere, in your bed, drawers, and again, laundry. Behind everything.

He should turn up. They usually do. ;]

Re: Baby Red Tail escaped today...

If you have a computer check in there my rtb seems to fancy mine got her head stuck in the floppy drive door thingy. Rather funny actually until i had to break it to get her free. She will turn up RTB's are smarter that your average bp (well in my experience) if there wasnt a direct path to get down to the floor from your closet shelf then she will be around there all my bps just seem to kamikaze off the edge of things lol. Well I guess thats the difference between arboreal and terrestrial snakes. Check in everything. I MEAN EVERYTHING. Heck check your tub again maybe she burried herself mine did that when I had aspen bedding and I swear my heart stopped when I went to get her one day and didnt see her in her tank. Good luck,

    Got him!!!

I stayed up until 2AM and never heard a peep but this morning I checked the mouse in the closet... it was gone... so i picked up the heating blanket next to the mouse and sure enough... there he was! He must have smelled the mouse, eaten it and crawled into the heating blanket to warm up.

I'm so happy. Mission successful and mom never found out.
