    Wink arguing with hubby ?

if you breed a het pied to a het albino will you get 50% possibable het for both just normals or do you have a chance of getting a morph? my hubby is well.... I wont say but he thinks he will get a albino pied with alot of luck I told him no one has that kind of luck and to just buy me an albion and a pied so he can have wha he wants lol

    Re: arguing with hubby ?

You will get all normal phenotypes, even if you breed an albino x pied. Breeding the babies back to each other(they'll be 100% double het), you have a 1 in 16 odds of getting an albino pied.

Breeding hets will get you what you said, 50% double het for albino pied, but all normals.

If you breed a Het Pied to a Het Albino, there isn't a chance to produce an Albino Pied unless both of the animals were actually Het for both Albino and Pied. You need double Het on both sides to make that possible.

    Hi,

Definately normal looking offspring 50% possible het for each morph.

Though remember there is no way to tell which way the coin fell for a looong time.

Try and talk him into at least one visible morph to gaurantee the offspring are het for at least something.

    Re: arguing with hubby ?

As has been stated, the only way you will produce a visible morph from that pairing is if one of the snakes was actually double het. And you won't get the albino pied unless both of the snakes was actually double het. It does happen that you can get a snake that is het for something but you aren't aware of its genetics, so in that sense your husband is correct that if you had a lot of luck it might happen. But not if the snakes are actually one het pied and one het albino.

With the het x het pairing, you will get 25% double het, 25% het pied, 25% het albino, and 25% normals. There will be no way to know which snake is which until you breed them and prove them out, which is a lot of work to raise them up and breed them back to their parents. It would take quite a few years to produce an albino pied starting out with only a single snake het for 1 of the 2 traits, and a single snake het for the other.

Learning how the Punnet Square works should be high on the list of actions for every potential breeder.
