appropriate weight for an 18 inch BP?

Just weighed Eve, she's 70 grams... she's about 18 inches, probably a bit longer, she didn't want to be measured.
I had posted some pictures of her here and on a few other forums when I first got her, and was told on another forum that she was underweight. The reptile store had been feeding her hoppers. I've had her four weeks, and she's eaten three times for me, I've fed her one small mouse every seven days. Does everything sound okay? I'm trying my best to make sure her conditions are perfect (which is actually pretty easy, with all the information on here)...

Re: appropriate weight for an 18 inch BP?

I have a three month old female that is quite underweight and I'm having terrible trouble feeding her. She's weighing in at 52 grams and is about 18 inches as well. I was told that most new born snakes weigh around 80 grams.

IMO, if your snake is eating once a week, I don't see how it could be underwieght. It sounds like you are doing a great job to me!

    Half way:
If you've been keeping track of her weight, and it hasn't gone up since you've had her, you should consider the possibility that she may have internal parasites.

Keep an eye on her weight, feed her the same, and if she still stays the same weight or even goes down, take her to a qualified herp vet.

It may even be worth it to save her next bowel movement and take it into a Vet's office for a fecal float.

    Isis:

If your still having trouble with yours, why not make a thread about it and we can go over everything like husbandry and what your offereing to her. She does sound really small. Has she been to the vet for check up and fecal since you've had her?

Re: appropriate weight for an 18 inch BP?

i haven't been monitoring her weight... I had loaned my scale to my sister for awhile, so today was the first time I weighed her... She looks like she's growing, and shed a few days ago. I'll be weighing her once a week or so to keep track.

Is there a software program out there that I can use to keep track of things like feedings, sheds, weight, etc?

Or you can use excel. I use excel for my rats. Chris uses Degai for the snakes.

I really liked Metzcal before my hard drive crashed. I don't have the patience to try and enter in all the data I lost, even if I could find it all. I use iherp now.

Here is a great little tool that will help you measure your bp!
    http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=28

All you need is an overhead photo and a few minutes of your time and you'll have a good estimate on her length.
