    *does happy dance*

*happy dance, happy dance, happy dance*

Tuesday is feeding day, and earlier tonight Sekai ate with gusto, as usual. (Quick side note: I hope he never learns that his kind are sometimes picky eaters... he's got an amazing feeding response).

Just now, I quietly went in to get some pajamas for bed, and noticed that he was out 'n' about, and there was something light-colored sticking out from his hide. 'Oh great', I thought, 'he regurged.' Not so! I turned on a dim light to check more closely, and it's a PERFECT shed! Sekai is completely clean from nose to tail tip, no eye caps. FINALLY! He must feel so much better, that last shed from his previous home was just terrible.

I may be a novice, but I am so proud of myself for helping my little dude have a perfect shed. I've kept a close watch on the temp/humidity, made new, better hides for him and ditched the "pretty stuff"... and it worked, yippee!

I had to be a mean momma and take two photos... to say I was ecstatic is an understatement! Now I'll leave him alone for a few days so he can digest in peace.

When he first came home, poor little rescue snake with a stuck shed...

    Tonight, in all his glory!

    "Leave me alone, crazy person!"

A note on the hides - I love the ones from Reptile Basics, but the Small is too small, and the Medium is too big for now... so I made my own. I work with vinyl, so I took corrugated plastic sheeting and coated it on all sides with nontoxic vinyl (dark brown, so it would be "natural looking" at least!) I used more vinyl to stick all the sides together. I made two identical hides - both are 6"x6" with an offset entrance and beveled edges for safety. I have to perfect my technique, but for a first attempt they seem to be working very well. At least, he seems to prefer them over all other hides I've had in there with him...

Nice job, he looks much better than when you first brought him home!
