    I think she is sick...

My ball python is acting strange. Lately she has been spending the day on the cool side of the tank and only being on the warmer end at night. She hasnt eaten for two weeks, she doesnt even seems interested. She did what looked like a strike once a couple days ago but nothing else. Im really worried. Is there any way to tell is she is starting to fast or something?

Sounds fine to me. Ball pythons are finicky eaters, after all. What do you feed her?

Sometimes when a snake doesn't take a meal it might indicate that there is something in the husbandry that isn't quite right. Have you checked your basic husbandry: hot and cool temps, ambient temps, humidity? How long have you had her and what is her age and weight? What type of enclosure are you using for her?
What I'm getting at is that the more information you share about the snake's environment, the better someone might be able to help you!

Could it be that she is going into shed? My BP won't eat during shed. But, Starmom probably has a better handle on it.

How big is she and how old? If she is over 1200 grams she may be building folicles...Most of the time when they start they spend most of their time on the cool side. If she is bigger, you may want to put a male in with her... I have had this happen over the years. Ill have a female that is around 1300 grams go off feed in breeding season. I usually only breed if they are over 1600, but if they go off feed i throw a male in. After locking up they eat like crazy. Sometimes you get eggs, sometimes it just gets them feeding again.

Re: I think she is sick...

She sounds stressed out to me. Do you have her in a glass aquarium? If so this may be the issue. You may need to find a way to cover the aquarium with something to make it dark in there. This will make her feel more secure.

I had a snake that wouldn't eat for 6 months or more. One day I decided to put him into a rack system, and within the week he ate. He eats religiously every two weeks now.

    Hope this helps...

Re: I think she is sick...

I do have in a glass aquarium. Right now a have her on rats. I just switched over from mice about 3 weeks ago and she ate the last ones just fine. Im constantly working on husbandry, maybe it might not be humid enough, and even when she is going on a shed she doesnt hesitate to eat. I guess i could try covering the tank for while make it dark see if that helps out. Thanx

Re: I think she is sick...

if shes going back and forth from cool to warm then it would seem like shes properly thermoregulating and that your temperatures are fine. since your using a tank i think that you should cover up the back and two sides with some kind of background because that may allow her feel a little more secure and help with feeding response. if she hasnt eaten for only two weeks then i wouldnt worry too much and if shes not eating because shes going through a shed then that is normal for many ball pythons.
