Scale rot? Something else on my BP?

I'm not sure what is going on here. Frank, my 3 year old male BP, started having what looks like unshed scales show up on his head a month or two ago. After his last shed, they've actually gotten worse, not better.

He's on reptibark in a 44 gallon tank with ambient air temp between 80-85, humidity between 40-50 (window unit AC messes with my room a bit), basking spot at 90F.

Any ideas what this is? His cage is clean, he has had a static environment since early this year, and nothing new has gone into it besides boiled wood and fake plants, which went in in late march or early may - a pretty long time. The problem on his head is new - doesn't smell or anything.

Upon further investigation, I think the velcro I used to attach the fluorescent light is starting to come off and Frank is poking his head between it and the ceiling (it rests on the background in my tank a bit, doesn't fall down - it's not totally unsafe, but I need to get this fixed) -

WHOOPS The roof is wood, so he's probably just rubbing his head raw. (Poor guy).

Zipties at dawn, I hope that fixes it.

    Hi,

I agree it looks like the old skin is lifting the top layer of the new scales when it comes off.

I would make sure to get the humidity up to 60-70% for the next shed cycle and see if that helps.

If you post pictures of the setup we might be able to suggest ways to do that the easiest way.

If oyu really can't raise it in the whole enclosure you could maybe try a humid hide?

Were there any scales stuck to the velcro?
