Hide Suggestion
What can I make a hide out of for a bin?
I see all these crazy hides everywhere and just want to make my own.
I tried the suggestion with getting a under pot water catcher plate, but the ones at many stores I went to were way too shallow. :[
I want it for a two year old corn snake, what do you guys use?

Bottom of a cereal box? snip the sides off so yo have a little open-topped box. then cut an entry slot on one side, flip it over, and voila hide

Haha, clever.
The only problem I have is it getting wet or pooed on. It's instantly ruined.. and I don't eat that much cereal. D: I know my ball would trash it in a day.. I have to clean his paper towels cause he partially spills his water bowl ALL THE TIME.

you should get a water bowl that tapers down on the sides so it cant spill.and as for a hide, why not just spend a few dollars and get one that you can clean?i know buying a hide for a full grown bp can be high if you want a fancy one but its worth it.i like to buy 2 of each so when one is being cleaned i can use the other.if you are gonna try the disposable it doesnt have to be cereal boxes.use your imagination,as long as its snug and poses no threat to the snake allergy wise or hazard wise use it.just try to keep it as consistant as possible or you could possibly stress the snake with multiple changes.one more thing,i know this site and most of the people in it advise on newspaper or paper towels as bedding but aspen or reptibark absorb urine and feces very well and is very easy to spot clean.it is a little more expensive at first but i cant imagine how many paper towels or newspapers you really have to go through to keep it clean since there is way for those 2 to absorb the yuckyness.if you want(is all up to u)let me know the size of your ball python and wat you are willing to spend and wat you are kinda lookin for and i can help you find either a constant hide or disposable ones.

Most hides that are conventional are very irregularly shaped and are for decor. For a tub that is obviously not required.
It's a ceramic cup.. he can't knock it over but he likes to slide it all over the cage.. which will cause the water to spill out of any water bowl. :]
Paper towels are much cheaper and easier to regulate temperature in, and personally I've found paper towels to be easy and effortless to clean.
I don't mind investing in a hide for him, I'd like to be able to make one though so when he's older, I can continue to make them as he grows. It's just finding a hide that fits in a tub without being.. well.. obnoxiously pointless.

ok,i am only trying to help you out.there are plenty of hides that are cheap and designed for tubs.they are ugly but affective and cheap.as for sliding around try a deeper bowl that you dont have to fill to the top.other wise substrate will be needed to keep it in place.

Re: Hide Suggestion
Do you have any local garden centers? Smaller, family-owned stores usually have the clay or plastic saucers that are deep. You can even ask them if they have used ones, which they will generally sell for less.
For babies I use 4" saucers, then they go up to 6" if they are 500g or so and need one(don't have any that need a hide at this size). My Walmart has them for 50 cents apiece for the 4" plastic saucers. You may also try Home Depot or Lowe's, and possibly Ace Hardware if you have one.
Plastic cereal bowls from the dollar store also work great.

I suggest being very, very careful using any kind of adhesive in the tank/tub. I have seen snakes getting stuck to it and it's not pretty!
