Question Should I feed more often?

ok so i have to ask, i just got my guy about two weeksa ago. the guy i got him from had him on fish gravel with only a branch(which was too small) and a water bowl, in a 20 gallon tank. i now have him in a 55gal with a heat lamp, two hides and some aspen bedding. He was only being fed twice a month. Do i need to up it to weekly ?? hes about 4 foot long and about two inches(i guess) in diameter

A 55gal may be too big for that snake.
Is that a BP? It almost sounds too large.. Snakes like to feel secure, having them in a big environment can cause stress. An Adult ball python shouldn't have to get anything bigger than a 40gal long at its largest. 30gal is recommended and if small enough, a 20gal is do-able.

1 you should feed him the correct size rat weekly
2 a 55 gal is workable i use a 70 just takes little more care, add some extra plants and deco for him to crawl round thru
3 get rid of the lamp and go with a uth your killing your humidity

OMG... that poor snake. I hate it when people keep these snakes like that, usually a result of listening to ignorant pet store people...
Yes you need to get that snake on a 7 day feeding schedule. Also, see if you can't scale down to a 30gal breeder or a 40gal at most. 55s are really high and therefore harder to keep steady temps and humidity in. You want low and wide.
Also, get a UTH or flexwatt and a thermostat. Lights, if used at all, should only be for small boosts to ambient temps not for the primary heat source.

Re: Should I feed more often?

thanks for all the help. i really appreciate it. im thinking that if i make it a couple of months with no problems, ill invest in another one. Just really hard in my area to find them, seeing as how the only reptile store i know of in Ocala, fl went "belly up" two mmonths ago. Its so bad out here that the aquarium place is selling feeders. lol If i knew how, id post pics on here to show you guys, but i cant even start my own threads for some reason.
