Question Just a couple of questions

Hi Everyone, the reptile and aquatics expo is quickly approaching here in mississauga (6/15/2008) and i need some help making a decision fast!!! I currently have an empty tank (36x12x18) and i'm wanting to make use of it. My questions are: 1. will this tank be ok to house crested geckos in? 2. If so, how many may i house in there? ( i was planning on gettin adults if possible)

I already have plants vines and pretty much everything that i would need. I just wasn't sure about the tank size

P.S. I also have an empty ten gallon tank just incase i change my mind and decide to get smaller ones. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Re: Just a couple of questions

That sounds like a 29 gallon tank. That size is great for cresties, I housed up to two females in mine.

Remember that if you get two you will have to make sure they are both females, and not male/female, or male/male.

Be prepared though, even some females can have territorial issues.
So you may need to end up separating them at some point.

But yes that will work for crested geckos!

Re: Just a couple of questions

You could get a male and two females, however that cage may get a little cramped. I at one point had 3 females in mine and there just wasn't enough room.

You want to make sure they are all of breeding size/age. Crested geckos are very prolific and will pretty much breed at any given time.

I keep my 29 gallon just like it is. You could turn it up on its side for more height if you wanted to. I just found it to be a pain trying to get the screen lid on and off with it being turned upright.

Wink Re: Just a couple of questions

back when i kept them....98 to 01....i used a 55 long with lots of cover and lots of hides. used fake plants w/ vermiculite pots for laying. lots of fake plants and driftwood, corkbark hides, they were happy all 1.3 of them. multiple water and babyfood/calcium dishes. and enough crickets and zoophobes for everyone! females laid eggs like clockwork every 28 days. they got a little too happy, had to pull the male for a while from time to time. they sometimes retain sperm too. good luck they are fun to breed...little boxes of chocolates ya never know what you are gonna get!! have fun!
