Have you done any research on this species, and are you prepared to provide a large enclosure for this animal?
Timor's are really great "pet" monitors. They are very shy and reclusive, don't like to be handled, and can stress out very easily. I would give them a large enclosure with items that they can climb around on, because they can and will utilize such items.
It sounds to me much like an impulse purchase, I hope you've done your homework.

Re: Timor Monitor!!!
Timors are what you call skitish monitors, they arent a monitor you handle all that much ( witch monitor is LOL ) and they are shy. I would suggest you buy a ackie over a timor anyday especially at that price. Usually timors a WC and not much are CBB. While all ackies are CBB.
A timor is somewhat arboreal and they require 5X2X4 cages ( LXWXH ) While a ackie requires a 4X2X3. Monitors are not very friendly lizards and I think their better choices out their then a monitors ( beardies, frillies, geckos, uros, and soo on ) If that timor is WC it has a high chance of dieing in the first year ( husbandary need to be good and care has to be really good to keep these monitors alive for a long healthy life )
So if you have your heart set out on getting it go ahead but again its not the best choice for a begginer monitor. You best option is an ackie or another lizard then move up from what you have learned from the ackie.
Hope this helped if you have any questions feel free to PM me
( husbandary, anything )

Re: Timor Monitor!!!
For $250, you would be better off getting an ackie. You can find Timors available online for less than $100 each during importing season.
Other than the pricing issue, Timors are really shy and usually wild caught. Most people suffer from 'empty cage syndrome' with Timors....you have a reptile in a cage, but never see it.

Yea I have hear about that with timors. Thats prolly what I hate most about monitors is giveing them a HUGE cage. Ackies are the way to go!

Re: Timor Monitor!!!
Yeah, wasn't really going to be a "any time soon" purchase but I was thinking maybe later on down the road. I love the look of the little guys. But beardies are going to be in the collection a long time before I would add a Monitor.

Thats good I think beardies are a lot better ''pets'' then monitors. You have to put a lot of work into you monitor. But when you do ( if you do ) get into monitors the best one to start off with is a ackie. Their are yellow and red ackies.

Re: Timor Monitor!!!
Timors are great display monitors. My guy has live plants, deep substrate and plenty of hiding. He is most active during the day. He has a time schedule. Gets out of his burrow (which he dug against the front glass!!) about a half hour after the lights come on and goes to bed about an hour before they go off. He is a blast to watch hunt for crickets. I do not handle this guy unless I need to for some reason. He is the shyest monitor I have ever handled or been around. So far one of my favorites that I have handled or owned so far. Beginner reptile keepers should stay away from these until they feel comfortable enough with their own experience. It is best to immerse yourself and gain knowledge and experience with all the reptiles you can. Geckos are great beginner lizards as they have low requirements and are fairly easy to handle. My favorite is the crested gecko. Beardies are good too, but are sometimes too much work for the first timer. They eat a ton and make awful messes. READ about all of the reptiles you are interested and go with the one you would feel most comfortable with keeping. Make sure their requirements meet your life style. It's just like owning a dog. You wouldn't get one just because they are cute. You have to make sure you have they right about of time and energy to put into your new friend. Good luck!
