    Naming

Hi I just found out my girl Kaya is really a boy and am having trouble coming up with a good name for him. Any ideas? Also when will I know to move him up to a larger prey item? Right now he is 23 inch long and about 3 inch. diameter at the largest part. I feed him small f/t mice. I took him out with me all day when I had him sexed. My mom held him, her boyfriend held him, the cats checked him out and still the next morning he took it right away. This time he did strike and constrict But then he took it into his water dish like he was trying to drown it. Of course it was dead all ready and I have never seen him do this with any live prey either, also after swallowing he took two big drinks of water, something I had never seen him do either. Does everything sound ok? Does he sound like I wont have to worry too much about stressing him out? That he is probably easy going. What are some signs I should watch out for that he might be getting stressed? Thanks.

Small mice seem way too small for a 3 in dia snake. Maybe a small rat would be better.

That's fine. Snakes will often "snap" into the closest area after a strike, if it's in the water bowl or not. I've gently moved a few of my snakes while they're constricting (not to much, you don't want to stress them) so they're not in the water bowl. I've had a young carpet python attempt to eat underwater in his water bowl and get stopped whenever he needed air...only go to back to trying to eat underwater. I had to take a snake hook and gently move him out of the waterbowl without getting bitten so he could finish his dinner.
