Constricting thermometer
Help. My BP is about 6 months old and is having a temper tantrum he recently had a bad shed so i raised the humidity in the viv and now he's constricting the thermometer i have in there. Its about 90 on the warmside and 82 on the cool. the humidity is about 80% and he's wrapped around the thermometer with his head underneath and he wont let me take him off. He hissed at me several times when i went to remove him. I'm worried that he's going to hurt himself squeezing it so hard. It's one of the round zilla humidity and thermometer kind. Is this normal behavior?

Re: Constricting thermometer
dont worry about it. My snakes seem s to grab onto anything around them dont know why. I would just soak the little one to help with that bad shed. Soak for about 30 mins in warm to the touch water and then he will do the rest. if not then you may have to pick off some of the little pieces. Just make sure they are all wet and soggy not dry they come off with now problems then.

Re: Constricting thermometer
Leave him alone for now, get his humidity back to the 70% range and follow this guide to help get that shed off.

If your still having trouble, ask and we can give you some more ways to try and get the shed off.

Are you talking about one of the round plastic stick-on kind?

Re: Constricting thermometer
Yup he looks stuck alright. They also inflate their bodies to stop you from getting them out. I don't know what you can do but wait, or try and force him off of there. That may end up hurting him though. I would turn out all the lights and leave the room for a few more hours to see if he cant get himself off when he feels safe. Or else it looks like your going to have to either pull off the thermometer or find someway to get him off.
Oh, he's not constricting it from the looks of it. Just stuck.

Re: Constricting thermometer
V, not invalidating you for wanting to do the right thing and get a thermometer for your guy - that's excellent. However, that particular kind is notorious for being inaccurate. I'd give it the royal towss, and get an accu-rite digital thermometer. Walmart-about 12 bucks. Very accurate.

Re: Constricting thermometer
if you didnt read I use an IR gun for temps. I check them daily and make a log. That's just in there for something to glance at when i dont have the gun. However if you insist I'll go buy another $20 thermometer to go along with the 10 others i have in all my other vivs.
