    Breed Successive Years or Rest?

I have a question for you breeders out there. Do you rest your females and alternate breeding seasons? For example, you breed the girl, she lays in the spring...do you breed her again in the fall? Or do you give them the next season off?

I suspect the determination is on a case by case basis and depends on the snake. But does anyone find it's beneficial to give them a year off?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

I go case by case. If she puts on the weight relatively quick and didn't have an enormous clutch, I would pair her up with a male the following year.

Re: Breed Successive Years or Rest?

This year I only had one repeat breeder (since last year was our first clutch) and she recovered and regained weight quite well. This year she laid the same number of eggs (8) as last year. Lucky will get next year off. I feel confident that she will probably be up to weight again by next breeding season, but I dont want to over stress her system by having her breed again. I would say that it is definatley a case by case basis but I feel that 2 years in a row calls for a vacation!

Re: Breed Successive Years or Rest?

I'm fairly new to breeding, but I went ahead and bred my big normal female again this season. She didn't produce anything (in fact, I don't think she ovulated) last season, so I didn't see a problem.
