wild caught bp
ok so last night when i put my new girl in her tank she was rubbing her face really hard against the ground and glass constantly.there was no goo left behind and she wasnt yawning or open mouthed.i am using a 10 gallon tank, uth with a dimmer set very low, repti bark, water bowl a itty bitty half log hide that suits her perfectly on the warm and a climb/hide on the cool side.i dunno wat the uth temp is but its not hot to the touch on the substrate.ambiant is 86 humidity 60%.after she would not stop rubbing i crumbled up some newspaper and tossed it in there and covered up all 4 sides of the tank.that was last night.wen i got up for work i looked through the top and she was resting in her hide and still there now.she is very under weight and im wondering when i should try to feed and what.im thinking a few pinkies a small hopper or even a lizard since she is wild caught on friday.any suggestions on anything would be helpfull.i know its not the greatest idea to go wild but i thought it was worth a shot.thanks in advance

Re: wild caught bp
Ball Pythons do not eat Lizards.
BUT!!! It sounds like she is either trying to shed, or she has mites.
Have you taken her to a vet yet?

once i put the newspaper and covered the sides she is no longer rubbing.im pretty sure there was a security issue.i did not take her to the vet yet but i did check very closely for mites and i seen none.i guess im more curious about feeding.i know the snake was stressed to the max so i want to wait but not too long because she is really thin

Re: wild caught bp
If you got her at a pet store, and she's tiny, she's not wild-caught. She's captive hatched, meaning the adult female snakes that are gravid, are taken from the wild and placed in holding pens until they lay their eggs. Those eggs are incubated in captivity, the babies hatch, and immediately are sent over to the US and other places even before their first shed. They don't even get the chance to drink African water.
They don't require any special treatment other than what you would normally buy at a pet store(treat for ectoparasites, ie mites and get a fecal done at your vet).
If she's small, put her in a 6qt tub with a heat pad on a thermostat, paper towels as substrate, one hide and a water bowl. Leave her alone for a week and try feeding a live hopper mouse at night. If she doesn't eat it, wait a week and try again.

Re: wild caught bp
its a pet store but they do a lil breeding of bps.they do alot of corns and milks and also african imports.i wasnt sure if it was wc or ch but i guess you answered that for me.id like to feed her a hopper but ive not seen a hopper small enough.here is a link of a few pics of her.her girth is slightly bigger than my middle finger

Re: wild caught bp
Yep, hopper's fine. That's what I start my babies on. When the hopper is stretched out, you'll see that they are a good size Most don't leave a lump.

Re: wild caught bp
She looks like a black-back. She's a cutie See what her offspring look like in 3 years, and see if she passes that black-back on.
