stupid movie stunt
In the latest Indiana Jones movie, there's a scene where Indiana and his female co-star are sinking in "dry" sand. His son uses a large snake as a rope, whipping the head out towards Indiana to grab. Not very realistic.

Re: stupid movie stunt
I just saw that movie last night and was completely outraged at that scene. Because of the whipping around of it, I couldn't really tell what type of snake it was, though it looked like a patternless green burmese. (Don't know the technical name for that). Those are absolutely GORGEOUS animals, and I was so very upset that they would suggest to any audience that it is a good idea to tug on a large snake. The amount of pressure that something like that would have put on the animal is enough to seriously injure it, if not kill it.
I just get the feeling some stupid little kid is going to go try it with his younger brother when daddy's not looking, and has his prized python out of its cage...

Ugh, I know...I saw it last night. SO stupid.
...Although I must admit, I never knew that Indiana Jones spawned Tarzan, King of the Jungle...

Re: stupid movie stunt
Pat, yes it's a movie. You know that and I know that, and I know that particular snake was not harmed during filming. That's all fine and dandy. I didn't stand up and shout at the screen.
But there were young kids going to see that movie, and as some of us have read in another recent post, kids tend to do stupid things when it comes to animals. Particularly animals they're ill-informed about. Particularly snakes...
Kids are impressionable. They're going to see that and think it's "heroic" or "cool". And since most parents are afraid of snakes, who's to tell them otherwise?
It's not the movie scene I'm concerned about. It's the "brilliant ideas" it's going to inspire in the minds of young impressionables.

Re: stupid movie stunt
Have you seen "No Country For Old Men". There is a bunch of killin in that movie! Im sure these things have been thought about before. Its like sayin the kids shot columbine becuase of video games.
Be real here. I was a kid once, and I saw some whack stuff on tv. Did I shoot anyone? Did I go rob a bank? kill a cop? No, I didnt.
Its Indiana Jones.....come on. Theres a big boulder that chases them in the older ones, do you think someone was like "hey lets get chased by a big boulder".
I just think you are being a little too concerned over this. What did someone say to me here the other day 20,000 are dead in China, and your worried about the snake from Indiana Jones.

Re: stupid movie stunt
I'm not saying EVERY kid in America is going to go do it. I'm saying that a select few might.
Kids growing up with images like that are part of the problem when it comes to misrepresentation and faulty stereotypes of snakes. (In my opinion, anyway.)
And yes, there are problems over in China. But, contrary to popular belief, I do have the brain capacity to worry about more than one thing at once.
