    Question Weight Help

My bp is 3 months old.
last week he ate 1 adult mouse just fine no problems F/T.

after handling him this past week I thought he looked a little an the this side. so I took him to a friend who knows ALOT about snakes. She confermed my suspictions, because of his belly and some wrinkles. and advised that I weight him and get online and see what an average weight for a snake, nate's age to weigh. ANY IDEAS??

So I weighed him and he was 202g. Last night I fed him two adult mice at 48g. together. also f/t.

I got really lucky my first time feeding him 2 weeks ago I tried f/t and he took it imediatly! No need for all the conversion!

PS. he is 17-8 inches long.

Oh and one more question. Last night while he was eating he may have gotten a few peices of Fur Bark. do you think he will be okay? I know that there is a chance of impation but how likely is it?? I did learn that the next feeding will be on paper towels in another container.

sorry for the book I just wrote..

    Thanks ~Hollie~

I'm sorry, it looks like you forgot a few words, and I'm not entirely sure what your asking for.

    Question Re: Weight Help

I will try again, sorry I was half asleep typing this morning.

My bp is 3 months old.
last week he ate 1 adult mouse just fine no problems F/T.

After handling him this past week I thought he looked a little bit thin. So I took him to a friend who knows ALOT about snakes. She said he did look under weight, because of his belly and some wrinkles.
So I weighed him and he was 202g.
She advised that I weigh him and get online and see what an average weight for a snake, of 3 months age to weigh.

I want to know what you guys think he should be weighing at 3 months for being 17-18 inches long.

I got really lucky my first time feeding him last saturday I tried f/t and he took it imediatly! No need for all the conversion!
Last night I fed him two adult mice that weighed 48g. together. Also f/t.

I did learn that the next feeding will be on paper towels in another container.

    sorry for for confusing everyone..

    Thanks ~Hollie~

    Re: Weight Help

Here is my interpretation/summary of the what OP meant:

"I think my snake is a little on the thin side. I'd like to know what the average weight of a 3 month old, 17-18 inch BP is. Also he may have eaten a few pieces of fur bark. How likely is it that he will get impacted?"

From what I've seen posted, the growth pattern of BPs varies widely. So there isn't any one "right weight" for a BP of a particular age. Some people who have had many more BPs than I may be able to give you a better idea of an average. You could post pics of your BP and ask people for their opinions on whether or not he looks thin.

If you decide he is too thin, you could either bump his prey size up a little bit, or many people feed young BPs every 5 days so you could feed him more often if you aren't doing that already.

I'm not sure what fur bark is... is it like repti bark? How likely he is to get impacted depends at least partly on how much he swallowed and you make no mention of how big the pieces were that you think he may have swallowed. I have not used that kind of substrate, but from what I've read of other people's experiences, occasional small bits of substrate don't seem to cause problems.

    Re: Weight Help

they were small peices, yes its exactly like repti-bark.

Thank you, he eats every 7 days exactly and I uped his feeding from one mouse to two. (adult) and he excepted willingly. I haven't had any issues with him eating yet. Thank goodness.

    Thank you very much.
    Sorry for the confusion.
