    Why do eggs slug out

After a little conversation with Heather I figured we could all learn a little something about slugs... Title says it all... lets hear some reasoning.

I thought it was because they were never fertilized?

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

The eggs slug out because they are not fertilized, sure.. But why not just reabsorb the follicles versus giving birth to slugs?

Re: Why do eggs slug out

I have never had a slug - but I have had infertile eggs - so I would think that a slug has a more underlying reason than just being infertile. I would also bemuse that since its said that big girls slug out a lot - that it may be an issue with mom or her health. Perhaps moms ova weren't right or she didn't thermo regulate herself very well during her development????? Or it could just be a quirk.

Sorry about your slugs Heather - hope you get lots next year.
