    Lots of snakes...

So I was wondering...for those of you with lots of BPs (like 50 or more, including babies)...do you have much smell coming from your snake room? I've heard Balls are relatively non-smelly snakes, and that's true for me, but I only have one

So what's the consensus? When people come over do they tend to be bothered by the scent? hehe...

    Re: Lots of snakes...

Well, I have 38 snakes in one room.. different species.. some big ones like my burm and anacondas. The room usually smells like aspen shavings a bit.. but if there's a fresh poop, you can smell it sometimes, but it's not bad.

    Re: Lots of snakes...

I have 13 snakes is a very small area of a very small room and it is smelly when I pre-scent and also for the rest of that evening.

Other than that, I clean the cages and tubs even before I have coffee and check them again in the afternoon, again in the evening and again before going to bed so if any snake has pee'd or poo'd I usually catch it pretty quickly. And because I use paper substrate, the entire tub or cage is completely cleaned out, hides and water bowl too, and put back together again fresh. Also, if the snake has been laying in their pee, I run them under water to rinse them off.

Husbandry and attention to it counts for so much.

    Re: Lots of snakes...

I've only got 6 but when a few do their synchronized shed, poop, pee routine it tends to smell a little musky in my basement until I clean out the tanks.

Nothing as bad as the initial smelly assault of opening the tub with a nice fresh one in there waiting for you though, now thats the worst.

    Re: Lots of snakes...

I dont have more than 50 but I do have 10 and they live in our living room... we have never, EVER had anyone even know they were there (hidden wall unit) until we tell them. Never an odor.. occasionally there are times when we just clean we have some stinkies but not usually

    Okay...

    Yes, they smell.

    Do they smell alot?

Only if you don't clean up after them for a while.

    Do they smell bad?

    Not in my opinion.

    What does smell?

Dead Rats (They start stinking IMMEDIATELY, it seems like), any rodent ANYTHING.. Especially after feeding, when they run around and piss and crap all over the CLEAN tub you had a few minutes before..

Do I have an issue with smell?

    Yes

Do I have an issue with rodents?

    Do I have issues??
