    Finally got a scale!!

Yay! FINALLY got a scale to weight little Slinky. Weighed him last night.. he's about 475g and about 2 ft. long. Couldnt get his measurement because the other day, I tried to open his cage and he flew out of his hide striking at me so I left him alone. Guess he was just PMSing. Seems like he's growing really slow compared to everyone else though..but maybe its just my imagination

So anyway.. I was told that might help get his age for me. I got him in December.

O.. and what size mouse is about right? I wanted to get the right mouse and weigh it lol just in case mine were too small or too big.

And lastly.. a few updated pics (you can actually see his yellow back spots in one of them, though its still not as bright as I see them).

my bp's are usually eating 2 or 3 mice by that size. depending on girth.

    Re: Finally got a scale!!

I've been feeding him 2 mice (smaller adults I guess...I just ask for feeders and they give me the same size every time) since he started surfing around for another after the first mouse, I just wasn't positive I was doing the right thing.

Edit: The mice definitely don't leave a lump, so at least I know they aren't too big.

    Re: Finally got a scale!!

At that weight I'd be giving him at least a 45 gram rat. My bp is at 35 gram rats and he is 275 grams (weighed him last night )

yeah, with my bps, rtbs, and retic, i look to achieve a lump or offer until they stop. with the acception of my retic, he will just keep killing them and slithering away if he's full. i really don't go according to the actual weight of the food. i kinda just feed by a visual judgement.

p.s. if he is lunging for you, he might still be hungry, try offering a bigger meal.

my bps just ball up during that time of the month.

    Re: Finally got a scale!!

I am a horrible judge of size - so I dont like eyeing prey size. I ended up with three 20-25 gram rat pups and four 35 - 40 gram rat pups when I didn't bring my scale a few weeks ago.

I don't know if this helps, but here is a 40 gram rat next to a regular sized bic lighter.

    Re: Finally got a scale!!

RBC- That was the first time he has ever lunged at me. Im guessing its my fault because I screwed up his feeding schedule because of conflicting schedules with my bf (hes at his house) but this was only 3 days after I fed him two mice. He was on the cool side of his tank but the temps were perfect. As soon as I lifted his towel (that covers his tank until I can grab some plexiglass) he jumped out of his hide and stared me down, striking at my hands when I went to try to open the cage. I left him alone and came back two days later and he was fine.

Missi or RBC (or anyone else) - If I were to try to switch to rats.. what size should I ask for? I dont really have a snake-friendly pet store to where I can ask for rats in grams lol Oh yea.. I feed live. Thats probably necessary to add
