Oh Justin, I'm so sorry. Is this typical for snakes during their first time breeding?
On a much more positive note: Look at that Sunglow!!! That is so sweet!!!!!!!!! And all those hets that you can breed back in a few years!!
I appreciate you sharing the disappointments as well as the successes of breeding~ thank you.

It is more likely for them to slug during their first year breeding, but not 100% thing....Thank you for the kind words.....Hopefully more litters to come!!!

I bought "Mom" as a male, and when he arrived I found out he was a she!!! so It was kinda cool, I gotta female for a male price.....anyway, she was around 5 1/2 feet when I got her a year ago, I am not sure how old she was because she had changed hands a few times, I got her up to six feet with good body weight by this season, and I threw a male in with her....boom she ovulated....I am guessing that she is 3 -1/2 years old.....I will bulk her up this year and see if she is willing to go next year

Can you breed every year with the same female? For some reason I thought it was best to take a year off

From what I understand it depdends on the breeder and the individual snake. Some species are bred more than once a year.

When breeding season roles around, I take about a week and go through all my females and get their weights and check their records, and if they look like they are in great shape and weight, I will go ahead try to bred them in consecutive years, but If I have the slightest doubt of the health or overall condition of the female, I will give her the year off.....on a side note.....Young boas rebound faster from pregnancy than larger older ones, so it all depends on age, size and how well they rebounded from the previous year, most of my larger females I do give them a year off unless I feel that they are ready......and If I mess up and a female is not ready to breed again, she will tell you by not ovulating......Thanks agian everyone for all the kind comments!!
