Re: What thermostat is more noob and user friendly?
They are rather comparable thermostats and both quite good. Many people seem to think that only a proportional thermostat is acceptable but I don't agree with that. I have a few Rancos that I use for enclosure control and a couple of Herpstats that I purchased to be used for incubation. Ranco's are available every day on ebay and you can get one there for about $50 shipped if you are patient and willing to lose a few auctions before you win one if you feel that you are qualified to wire it up yourself. It is really quite easy and instructions can be found online to wire it up. You can buy a power strip for a dollar and cut a cord off of anthing or buy an extension cord for $1. If you don't feel up to it, Reptile Basics is a good place to buy one that is ready to go. This was a long winded way to say "Yes, either Johnson Controls or Ranco is a good choice" and both are simple to operate.

I use a Spyder Robotics Herpstat. Super easy, just plug it in, set the desired temp by holding down 1 button, and you're done.
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

But, when you're strapped for cash, the Johnson and Ranco work just as well. And in a real pinch the ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R works just fine.
If you have the money, always go for the best you can get.
Yeah i finally freed'd up close to 230 bucks last week and i bought 2 herpstats...one to control my UTH, and one to control my overhead heating. I used to have a Repstat and had used a lamp dimmer also, but im verrrry happy that i got the $$ to get these. Trust me, you wont be dissapointed when that day comes when you get that little white package in your mailbox lol

Why didn't you just get a Herpstat II?
