Moving a BP & Tank Size

    Hey Everyone,

I am finally getting the rescue I have talked about! I have a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow afternoon for a general check-up and to have it sexed. What is the best way to move him during the trip? I have heard people making snake bags by putting a pillow case inside out the snake is in the part we usually put our faces on, then putting that in a box. Is this right, and if so, should I leave the box open for more airflow, since the sack will keep them from escaping.

Also, I have a much better length measurement than before, and I am questioning what size tank to put him in. He is roughly 25 inches, and the two tanks I have already are a 29G(30x12x18) and I think a normal 20 (24x12x12). He is in a tub right now, though I forget the dimensions on it. I am okay to keep him in the tub for a quite a while, but I know I will want to switch to glass sometime. I would think the smaller tank would be better for him right now, but how fast, if at all, do you think the larger tank would become a neccesity. I will post tomorrow if it is male or female, and whatever else the vet says.

Thanks a lot. (Pics up in my gallery now, too, though he is in shed, so not that vivid)

I would start him in the smaller enclosure. If it's 24 inches wide, then yes.

Pull the pillow case inside out, and just go like that. Make sure it's closed tightly with a rubber band or ziptie so he doesnt get out. You dont necessarily need a box, but you can put him into a small tub just to keep him from rolling around.

Inside-out pillowcase tied tightly, put into an insulated box with some loosely balled newspaper or shredded paper. Tape up the box so drafts don't get in. There is plenty of air in the box, no worries.

    I would use either a 32qt tub or the 20 long for a 2ft snake(actually I would use a 15qt tub, but I know ya'll like the bigger tubs/tanks).

The 29G has the same dimensions as a 20L, except 6 inches higher. You still think I should use this, or the 24x12x12 (all of my dimensions are in lxwxh)

The extra height is unnecessary and just more space to heat. The shorter the enclosure is, the easier it is to keep ambient temps up.

Re: Moving a BP & Tank Size

I dont even have a lid ready right now, and looking at the cost of making one myself has made me consider just buying a 20L. I will figure something out, he is in a tub that suits him well right now, so I am in no hurry. Just a few hours and I will know the gender!
