    home depot?

Has anyone ever had trouble at home depot before?

A few weeks ago I went to have some wood cut for a 12q rack. The man did NOT want to do it. He made one cut and walked away. And never came back, just said as he was walking away not looking back "I will send someone else to cut this". We were standing there for close to an hour, before I finally hit the help button. I know home depot is busy and I didn't want to bug them but I figured we waited long enough. All the while we were waiting the first man kept walking by ignoring us. Another man finally showed up that was willing to help us. The man was very nice and made GREAT cuts. So ok no biggie..

I went yesterday to have more melamine cut for an adult rack im about to build. The guy who made 1 cut last time was the same guy we ran into first, so I told him I needed 4 sheets and many cuts. He was SOOO rude, it wasnt just what he said it was totally how he said it. He said corporate told them they aren't allowed to cut wood anymore because some of the workers are spending too much time with customers and lumber. Then he stormed off.

We went to the service desk and asked if it was true, "I said I already bought everything I need for the project Im going to build and now (guys name) in lumber said he's not allowed to cut the wood for us?" the service counter dude had no idea if indeed the policy had changed but he would find someone willing to cut the wood for us.

We waited about 30 minutes for someone to show up as that one guy from lumber again walked by us MANY times ignoring us, only stopping once to tell us, they are changing their policy about cutting wood. He originally said they wont cut any wood anymore to saying they are only allowed to make 2 cuts. By this time, I'm annoyed with this man so I said well I want it cut, I pointed to the sign above the saw stating 2 cuts are free, the rest is 25 cents and how it says nothing about a new policy. He said "We will do it today but that sigh will be taken down on Monday and a new sign will be in its place!!!!" and once again stormed off.

Then, I spotted the other man who made the cuts for the first rack. He wasn't working, just shopping. I asked him when he was working next, he said tomorrow and that he will cut it for us. I said even though the other man said they cant cut wood anymore? He said yes he will just start cutting and then if they said anything to him, he said he'd say "Well i cant stop now, i already started cutting." So we left.

Went back today, got the wood cut. Yay!

So to get to my point, I was just wondering if anyone has had a problem with home depot and cutting wood. Is this in fact a new policy?

And if in fact this is true, I guess I wont be building anymore racks myself as my cuts always come out crooked. lol

wow...customer service, anyone? sounds like this dude just hates his job. You should get his name and talk to his boss about his "customer service"

    Re: home depot?

their policy is 2 free cuts. 50 cents per cut after that.

the argument could go either way. customer service should be important.

On the other side, their is a reason their prices are usually good. they stock items they can sell a lot of, quickly... without a huge staff.

This is just my personal opionion, so please don't take offense. If I were buying all of my supplies for a rack from home depot, I certainly would NOT expect them to make all the cuts for me. They are a retailer, not carpenders. a few isles away you can buy a circle saw for about 35 bucks.... It will be capable of making all of your cuts, exactly the way you want them, on your time for many years to come.

I was there picking up melamine for my rack and ask 3 people if they sold melamine tape. All 3 said no. So, I order it online only to find out on another trip there they had a whole displace section with the tape and it was $10 cheaper than I paid online. GRRRRRR.

My dad's in there all the time and he says it happens to him many many times, so he no longer asks them for help. In his words you need to find things there for yourself.

Home Depot SUCKS. Their customer service is the worst of any store out there. I've gone there and had them cut multiple pieces and all of them were wrong. Most people don't know what there doing their and never know where things are. Lowes on the other hand is total opposite.

I've generally had decent service at Home Depot. Sounds like this guy is just a terd, so I don't know if I'd lay the blame with Home Depot as there was that other guy who was great there.

If it's a service they offer, then I would definitely expect it. They charge per cut...I'm willing to pay...so why shouldn't I expect them to do it?

Not everyone has the skill to run even a table saw. And most certainly not everyone has the space available to do so.

In the OP's case, it sounds more like a problem with an individual than an entire corporation. At the same time they had a jerk who wouldn't do his job...there was also a very nice guy who did it very well and offered to continue doing it even if policy changed. So which one do you choose to reflect how well all of Home Depot is doing its job??? Often, it boils down to specific store management. Some are definitely better than others...whether Home Depot or Lowes.

    Re: home depot?

Oh and, i forgot to mention the rude guy told me doday after we talked about the sign, "go Greeneburgs they can cut it for you for a dollar a cut."

I really would like to tell someone how rude he was but then again, if it costs him his job I'd feel very bad! What if he has a family and really depends oh his job, ya know?

As for getting a saw, I can run one but not with accuracy, I am not too keen on spending 128 dollars (+ tax) on 4 sheets of melamine and chancing messing up the cuts. Not to mention, the saws make me nervous.. I like my fingers lol.

As JLC said, if its something they offer, than I have every right to utilize that service. And like I said if they have changed their policy than I will have no complaints in the future, policy is policy. but take the sign down then.

I just think the guy was full of it as he didn't want to help us from the very start even before the "policy change".

Oh well.. I got my wood cut, Im happy now YAY

speaking of which.. I need to get back to business, I was just takin a cig break lol
