I will be cooking brunch for my mother... she refuses to accept gifts, but loves it when someone else cooks for her so it works out.

My parents are dead, but I love it when my kids call. They both live far from me. They could throw in a snake, I wouldn't turn it down. I don't really need another one, but heck you can't toss a gift!!

    Re: mothers day

I don't have a mom and was a single mother for such a long time that I pretty much talked myself into mother's day as being nothing more nor less than a Hallmark holiday designed to give corporate coffers a boost. Cynical, huh?!

My kids say "I love you" to me all the time and I get plenty of hugs. My adult kids both thank me and chastise me for my parenting skills, and my kids still at home appreciate me and abhor me on a daily basis I don't think my kids will ever need tv commercials to remind them to let me know they remember me. I don't need diamonds or flowers or dinner out or mandated phone calls.

But.... as Blu Mongoose said, I wouldn't turn down a snake!!

I'm getting my mom a ticket to see Flight of the Conchords with me, it's different and should be fun, she really likes them.

    Re: mothers day

My mother is also one of those who refuses gifts. She insists that a simple hug and a hand-made card are the only things she wants or needs.

So, I'm getting her a Zojirushi BBCC-X20 Home Bakery Supreme Bread Maker; the world's #1 rated, chef approved, Cadillac of bread machines. There is literally nothing above this model on the market, and its predecessor also dominated the market for over half a decade.

She loves to bake bread, but never has the time these days, and with a case of arthritis in her joint she even finds knitting difficult at times, never mind kneeding dough. The machine also comes with a feature to just make/kneed the dough, then you can take it out and put it in the oven yourself, if you prefer. It also makes jams, jellies, cakes, sourdough... the list goes on and on.

This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
