I would avoid wood all together, as they are hard to clean and steralize. The summer picnic area at walmart has various size bowls that make great hides, and they can be run throuh a dishwasher.
My friend used one for about two weeks, and after it got pooped on she had to throw it out because it would not clean and took forever to dry. Think about alot of other things people use in bp tanks, thats about the worst excuse ever on the list!

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat
Precisely the reason that we don't recommend them, in addition to them being awkward and most keepers buy them way too large. You can't disinfect them well - so they have the same problems as any other wood.
I agree with plastic bowls or kitty litter pans for larger snakes turned into hides.
I would recommend something that is easy to clean and disinfect (to avoid molds and bacteria)
Hides don’t have to be expensive and can be made out of plastic flowerpot saucers, plastic bowls, kitty litter pans etc………all of which are easy to clean and disinfect.
