    Spinners versus Wobblers

Most of us are aware of the specific traits of some of our beloved Ball pythons.

Please share YOUR OWN personal definition of a Spinner, and of a Wobbler, and what is the difference????

    Re: Spinners versus Wobblers

I have 1.1 Spiders. One from BHB, the other from Michael Cole. Neither spin or do loops, but both wobble to a certain degree. I've watched them in their tubs for long periods of time and both have good control of their heads. They wobble when they get overly excited for feeding, or if they have been startled.

    Re: Spinners versus Wobblers

I will pose my question in a different way

What is the DEFINITION of a wobbler?

    A Spinner?

What are the physical characteristics of them?

    Bouncy head?

    Tilted head?

    Unable to straighten up??

    Re: Spinners versus Wobblers

i've owned both spider and combomorphs.
the combos seems to do it less.

my spider "span" he would cruise around in his cage and occosionally flip his head upside down and continue, so he would look like a roller coaster loop.

he had very good head control with no tilting.

but he would wobble, head shake back and forth, only when food would be presented.

my bee does no spinning. but when held she likes holding her head upside down, y who knows.

she is a slight head tilt, her head is usually for the most part cocked to the side, kinda like the look of a confused puppy.

and she wobbles when food is presented.

on a side note none of these animlas have ever had a problem because of these traits.

    Re: Spinners versus Wobblers

I have one spider that slightly wobbles... like Becky describes above...

I also have one that tilts a bit when a meal is coming, but NEVER refuses!

Now that I think about it, I wonder if the tilt is a slight form of the spinning trait?

*I know it's not a desirable trait, but it is what it is.... and it's actually kind of cute, in awwww... sort of way*

I don't know that it's been defined, Heather. But in MY mind - a wobbler would be one that has the slight shaky back and forth movement, or tilted head - basically, mild degrees of the condition.

A spinner to me would be the "train-wrecks". The ones that twist and contort their bodies with no control, unable to right themselves, etc.

Others may define it differently - but that's how I think of them in my mind.

Hope that's the sort of answer you were looking for!

    Re: Spinners versus Wobblers

My girl spins sometimes when she cruises her tub, I always noticed she was a little special when it came to the rest of my collection. I haven't noticed wobbling, to anyone who's thinking about getting a spider, I wouldn't think about it twice there awesome.

I agree although spinning can be less severe with constant corkscrew like behavior.

Wobblers wobble but they don't fall down.

    I couldnt help it

    Robin,

That is exactly why I asked. There is no true defined in the dictionary definition in the BP world, which is why I put it forth to the masses I appreciate your answer though. It is what I was looking for.
