    Racks

I was thinking about maybe in the *somewhat* near future getting a small rack system. I want to get at least 1 or 2 more BPs but the tank setup is less than ideal when you own multiple snakes.
How much would a small rack system like this run? and how do you go about heating each tub? does each tub have 2 UTH's?

Thanks in advance for any info

    Re: Racks

check out reptilebasics.com or animalplastics.com and look at their racks. Flexwatt is generally used in a rack system. Be sure to look at the tub sizes as racks can look bigger than they actually are when looking on the net.

    Re: Racks

I just finished an EXTENSIVE online search of rack prices...and found that they run from the cheapest I found at $185 to $300 and up. After seeing that, I decided that building one myself would be much cheaper...and it certainly has been so far. I even messed up pretty badly when picking tubs (too small for adult BPs), so it turns out this rack will be for my corn snakes, but it's still a ton cheaper than buying a premade.

FYI, the display cages I planned for my corns (and have all the materials for now) turned out to be just the right size for my BPs! So I just switched plans.

    Re: Racks

Price ranges vary depending on the material of the rack, heat source, and whether or not tubs are included. Usually they're heated by flexwatt, I think most common is a 4 inch or three inch strip which runs along the back of each level of the rack.

    Heres a picture: http://www.boaphileplastics.com/rhin...xwatt_Rear.jpg

Usually this is enough to provide the proper temp gradient your snake needs; you may run into problems if your enclosure is in too cold of a room. In that scenario you would need to do something to raise your cool side temp.

    Re: Racks

I would be very interested in possibly building my own rack after seeing how much these cost. I'd like to build one with 3-4 tubs. Would anyone be able to give me some tips on building a rack?
