    breeding "late"

So for those of you veteran breeders, whats the latest time of year you introduce a male?

I have heard of "some" breeders breeding any time of year while others only certain times... so each breeder what do YOU do?

You can breed anytime of the year. Most people pic what works best with them.

I'm going to pay close attention to my females that are up to size this year. If they stop feeding for extended periods of time - I plan to put a male with them and see if they lock or not.

So - while I'll primarily breed during the "normal" season, I'll also let my animals tell me when they are ready to breed.

I am breeding a late one now. She was not up to my standards in Nov, but she came along nicely.. I am pairing her with a male now. Way I look at it.. I'll have more incubator room by the time she pops

We are trying for our first time now. We had the girls big enough, but had to wait till quarantine was over. Didn't want to get into a rush and risk animal safety. Also we figure we can try and if nothing comes of it we can try again next year closer to the standard time.

Hi Robin!~ Yes Yes Yes!!! This is what I believe also!! I wonder where this breeding time a year comes from? It's sort of like the male ranchers out here who calve in January. A bunch of us girls got together and were talking about how crummy January birthing is for all us animals. A couple of my girlfriends who have stock decided to calve in March and April and it's working out really well. Little calves are having the spring grasses to eat and the warm sun to play under, mommas seem to like the warmth better and all believe they'll be up to size by auction and slaughter time.
So, I guess I'm saying that since we are creating and manipulating the snakes' environment to begin with, it seems as though any time of year would be fine Do you have any further thoughts about this?
