    temps

I got my new Accurite indoor/outdoor thermometer and set it up a couple hours ago. Only have 1, so I put it on the warmer side. Indoor temp reads about 85 and outdoor temp (inside the warm hide) reads 88, however the probe is not under the substrate. Those temps seem ok?

    Re: temps

the temps are raising a bit now, had the top off the tank while i was doing the setup. I also threw some tin foil, shiny side down on the screen. that should help.

    Re: temps

That does sound o.k. I would put the probe under the substrate so you know the hottest temp your bp has access to should he burrow. If the ambient temp continues to climb from 85, try raising your lamp (if you use one) or providing more ventilation.

And since you have one accurite, put the actual device on the cool side so you know that it is not dropping too low and keep the probe under the warm hide.

    Re: temps

An alternative to a thermostat is a $9 table top lamp dimmer from Wal-Mart. These adjust the amount of energy that is sent to the UTH. They aren't as good as a thermostat, but are a quick cheap fix.

    Re: temps

Ok so I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the bottom of the tank, put Shinobi into a tub while I put it underneath the substrate, and turned the UTH back on. With the probe under the substrate it is reading 90 degrees, but if it keeps rising ill just have to turn the uth off/keep a close eye on it until my thermo gets here.

    Exclamation Re: temps

The ambient temp on the cool side is a steady 77 degrees, is that too cool? I might get a 2nd uth when I get my thermostat and just use those to heat the viv, and maybe a 75watt moonlight bulb for viewing.
