Are we talking about when sealing a screen top?

You should not have a problem with stamet air.
The problem is humidy! Do you have a gauge?
You want to achive 50% to 60% then bump it up to over 80%
    During a shed.

The Problem is "most people" don't live in the your house with your temps and humidity. Adjust your air flow to control humidity.

There are no problems only solutions.....

If to much air is circulating and your humidity is dropping below
50% then that is not good.

If you are misting too much and the tank is wet then bacteria can develop and that is not good.

Re: how much of a gap to leave

What are you covering your tank with? I covered mine with three layers of aluminum foil to trap heat and humidity. I left a hole about the size of my lamp (5.5" diameter) for air circulation and for my moonlight bulb. The edges are sealed with duct tape.

You can barely see it, but look directly under the lamp.
