    overhead lamp

I was just wondering, does the overhead lamp in my ball-pythons tank supposed to stay on constantly or do I switch it on and off to follow a specific schedule? Is the same procedure needed for my red rat snake?

If the lamp is the only heating source, I would say keep it on. If there is a UTH, then I would say you don't really need a lamp anyway.

Goes for both types of snakes.

Lamps used for supplemental heat and lighting should be on a 12/12 day night cycle. Lamps containing CHE's or other only heat bulbs can be left on all the time, but it's really easier to use UTH's for heating.

    Re: overhead lamp

I leave a low wattage "moonlight" bulb on 24/7. It provides a few degrees worth of heat, and allows great visibility of my BP in the dark.
