Molded Egg

Have a clutch in the incubator since March 31. 6 eggs stuck together. Laid in vermiculite just as mama laid them. Egg on bottom has started molding. What do I need to do? Other 5 are candleing good.

I've never had a moldy egg, but I have read that they are usually harmless to the other eggs. I would keep an eye on the others and if they ever start growing mold, you can try sprinkling some anti-fungal powder on them (also from what I have read).

I would just leave it alone. It won't hurt your other eggs and it may just hatch. I would not recommend putting anything on it, you may hurt the other embryos.

I've seen some nasty green and brown wrinkly eggs that I was sure were dead, hatch out nice healthy babies.

If its still good and you want to try to save it you can try the powder thing. It worked great for me with some leo eggs. But If it is bad then I would just leave it alone. You could rip open one of the other good eggs.

I had this happen to one egg last year and some told me about the anti fungal powder but I was worry to do it.
So what I did was every day or so I would just open the lid to the eggs and the one with the mold I would take a dry Q-tip and roll it just the spot clean, make sure you don't spred it around and the egg hatched out fine.
I'm sure there are others on here that might help you out better then this but this is a little something to try.

Just leave it alone. The good eggs are tough and the egg is a living thing, complete with an immune system to protect the embryo from fungal/microbial harm.

The best advice I ever got concerning incubation was to just leave the eggs alone. The only thing I need to worry about is mixing the vermic right and keeping the incubator at 88 degrees.

You might want to watch out when it comes time for the babies to hatch.....that egg box is going to smell RIPE!

I've had it happen. Just leave it be for now, and watch that the mold doesn't spread. Should not be an issue Good luck!!
