New Blood Need Your Input

Re: New Blood Need Your Input
That is a blood python (Python brongersmai), most likely of Sumatran descent.
Just to clarify, blood pythons (again, P. brongersmai) come from Sumatra & Malaysia. While they are "short-tailed" pythons in a sense, they are the only species correctly referred to as blood pythons. Borneo short-tailed pythons - or more recently, "Borneo pythons", (P. breitensteini) ONLY come from Borneo & Sarawak. Their range does not overlap that of the blood python, or the Sumatran short-tailed python.
Sumatran short-tailed pythons (Python curtus) are the darkest of the three species & frequently referred to as "black blood" pythons, although they should not be confused with darker forms of P. brongersmai. They also inhabit Sumatra, but in mostly different areas than P. brongersmai, although wild intergrades are occasionally seen.
She's very pretty, but please consider taking her off aspen, as it has a tendency to become caked in the mouths of younger bloods as they push & nose around their enclosures. Newspaper is your best friend when it comes to substrate for young blood pythons, and a closed-lid container with ventilation holes (i.e. a rubbermaid tub, not a critter keeper) will go a long way to helping keep this snake happy & healthy.
Good luck!

Bloods vary in appearance. I mean VARY... that's one of the things that make them so amazing IMO.
If Kara believes that it's a Sumatran from the photos, then there's a 99.9%... (if not more) chance that it is. Just sayin'
That is one good looking lady! Love the light head

Very good - that's a pretty snake. You should take photos after each shed as she grows up.
Eggs are cooking...next few weeks should be fun!
