Cost of BP Tank
Hey everyone,
I am brand new to the forums here, and I am thinking about maybe getting a bp this fall after I move into my new apartment. I still need to find a breeder in Michigan to get one, but I wanted to check and see how much it would cost to set this up. I have heard that the bp should be around 35 dollars, is this reasonable? (normal morph)
Also, I have a 10 gallon glass tank already that I would probably want to use to start. I have a under-tank mat already on one side from when I had a chameleon (couldn't keep the humidity and temp quite high enough for them (90+ and 70+% humid for the type i had)
I think these should work out as they are, but if not I will at least need a new mat. How much should it cost me to set-up a 10 gallon glass tank assuming I have nothing but the tank? I have looked a bunch of the stickies, but I have noticed that there really isnt one that is all-inclusive. If someone could either give me a total estimate or categorize the different things I would need, that would be really helpful.
Also, another new member to the forums is a friend of mine, and he has helped me out a lot, just wanting to get into the forums myself as well.
Thanks

Forgot thermostat, and not a junky one from the pet store either. High quality digital is what you need to get. They range from $75-$110. They are used to control your UTH so it doesn't get too hot, and will shut off in case of a malfunction.

Re: Cost of BP Tank
I have a ten gallon glass I'll go through my cost for you, assuming you only have that
Top: ten bucks
Locks:idk i use heavy rocks, always worked for me
reptibark 15 bucks
heat pad: 15
Dimmer or thermostat:well my dimmer which the uth is hooked into cost me 8 bucks to make (and ill upgrade to a thermostat once i get more money)...but this will vary greatly, and I wouldn't recommend the dimmer route, its just unexpected car troubles forced me to for now
Hygrometer: 13 bucks
Coconut fibers 2 bucks
Water dish 4 bucks
Insulation for outside three sides...idk don't use it, but thats only bc I use a ceramic heater (as well as the uth) in lamp w/ built in dimmer control and the dimmer lamp would cost 15-20 the ceramic would be 25-35 I would think, but I do it bc i got it at a show for 5 bucks.
background for three sides to enclose it to make snake secure...however much depending on what you use
4 layers Aluminum foil on screen top cover 3/4 it...i just had laying around
My hides...1 buck, but plan on geting new heavier ones at next show so 15
Also, add in your decorations if you want
All this gets me good readings, keep in mind w/glass your going to be losing alot of heat, so don't be surprised if people recommend you a tub instead.

Re: Cost of BP Tank
To control your UTH, a $12 Accu-Rite thermo/hygro and a $9 Table top lamp dimmer + a few hours of tweaking will do the trick if money is tight. It isn't as good as a thermostat, but it is a lot cheaper. You just have to monitor it a lot more than you would a thermostat.
