    Rescued Milksnake

I stopped at a petstore that my mom told me about yesturday, I went inside, and to say the least, it was the WORST petstore I have ever been in. I first stopped and looked at the fish, the tanks looked like they were not cleaned in forever, then were at least 10 rabbits for a small hutch, and the locally bred puppies were living in piles of urine and feces. I managed my way over to the reptiles to be even more disgusted. There were ball pythons in with large rtb's and the cages were not cleaned in a long long time, a large tegu in with leos and beardies. I saw this milk and it was labeled as 'California Kingsnake' sure... I talked to the manager, over the phone, who handed the milk over to me and told me he would handle the rest (I could trust his word, right? ). I called up the local humane society shortly afterwords (I did not believe the managed at ALL ), and I have just received word, that the humane society has halted all sales of animals, until further notice. (Did I do the right thing though?)

Luckily this milk seems to be in good condition , is 119grams, not skinny and feisty. He was the only animal to be in a cage by himself, except a white eye tree frog, they had labeled as grey barking tree frog.

I believe he is a pueblan, can anyone confirm? Normal or Apricot?

I agree. I think if the animals were living in those kind of conditions that you did the right thing calling up animal control.

If conditions are that bad there's no reason to give the owner a chance to clean up his act because chances are he won't.

Not only are you protecting the animals but the people who might have bought them too. I wouldn't doubt it if that place is filled with disease.

    Re: Rescued Milksnake

Good for you! More needs to be done against such places. I recently called in a PetSmart to the state for selling illegal animals. Personally as far as illegal animals are concerned...a lot of them have no reason to be illegal...other than the fact that the state of Maine sucks about such things.

The main reason why I called them in was because I know for a fact that the store manager knew better. I had been their animal care manager (and left mainly because of how they ran the place and didnt allow for time to actually take care of the animals!!! It was a constant battle). Anyways, the managers *knew* that tortoises, cameleons, etc. are illegal in our State. I constantly was complaining about how such wonderful animals weren't allowed.

So not even a month after I put in my notice and left, I went into the store to get some stuff (cheapest source of crickets), saw that not only did they have 3 Russian Tortoises, they also had a couple of veiled cameleons!!

It is misguiding to the public to have such animals for sale. How is the average person supposed to know the pet they are purchasing is Illegal??? Not cool. So I reported them, they got in major trouble and had to ship all the illegals to a New Hampshire store. They still don't know it was me that reported them.

So although the story is a bit different I find it similar. Petstores need to be held more accountable! Whenever I find anything that I feel is wrong I always report it.
