    Re: I Finally Got Him!

Hes likely just stressed (I do not own any red tailed boas so just my 2 cents) Try and keep away from the enclosure so he can relax. As for temps, someone else will have to pipe up and let you know if everything sounds right Congrats by the way!

    Re: I Finally Got Him!

I've always kept our boa's a bit cooler than the BP's and provided a very deep substrate for them as they do seem to enjoy burrowing. He may well be stressed. I assume you bought this snake from a reputable vendor so hopefully health is not an issue but quarantining him completely from any other snakes you own is always a smart thing.

You might want to place a light weight but dark in color material over his enclosure leaving a bit open for ventilation. Something like a dark pillowcase or light sheet often seems to help our boa's settle in better especially if they are in a busier part of the house. Even our male whose been with us since he was a tiny thing has a black sheet over part of his big glass tank to allow him some privacy and downtime from being seen (he lives in our livingroom which is a busy part of the house). He also has a huge black plastic hide which he often uses.

    Re: I Finally Got Him!

I think you are more stressed then the snake Just relax and let him get use to his enviroment.

My RTB wedged himself up along the lid to his cage for the first several days. Weard behavior compared to now. I left him alone for a good week, only changing the water and he finally moved down and burried himself in the substrate. He likes to lay and just poke his head out now waiting on a F/T fuzzy to just show up at the end of some magic metal tongs.
Now he likes to read this forum with me a few times per week. yours will settle in and be a good pet. Can't wait to see yours...

    Re: I Finally Got Him!

Just give it some time! My little spider BP does kind of the same thing sometimes after I take him out then put him back in his cage, he gets over it though. My baby red tail actually doesn't use any of her hides, I gave her some extra aspen and she burrows under it instead of going in a hide. I also put some newspaper up around 3 sides of her cage so she can feel secure since she does not seem to want to use hides. Your baby might change its mind though once its settled.
