    heat cable warmed racks

has anyone had any luck with the heat cable racks? Please share your thoughts. My concern of course is that the inch or two right above the heat cables would be HOT and then the temps would drop off drasticly after that.

    Thanks!

    Re: heat cable warmed racks

I maintain proper temps in my racks without any problems!

The difference from top to bottom might be 1 to 2 degree maximum.

Deborah, I think he is referring to what would seem to be a small basking area compared to a 4" wide strip of heat tape?

I think they attempt to compensate by doing a couple zig zags across the bottom. To me it seemed like a lot of work and in a flat style bottom rack you would have to cut grooves for the heat cable to sit in, so it does not catch on the tub.

    Re: heat cable warmed racks

My rack (vision rack) uses heat cord. It was weaved for me when I got it, but its little zig zags about 8 iches or so up and down on the back side of the rack. It heats very effectively, and I know that at least one large breeder uses all or mostly heat cord racks (proexotics) from the tour I did in their about a year ago. My rack temps are exactly the same in each unit, I don't use the bottom three tubs... But I do keep substrate in them to keep WET and humidify the other tubs along with "misting" and since I got it I have insulated the sides, and top for maximum heat efficiency but did not notice any problems before insulation. Just wanted a more efficient rack.
