    Ibd

I was talking to a friend at school the other night and IBD came up. He said that a snake can carry this disease and not be effected, is this true?

If so should everyone get stool testing done at the vet on any new snake?

    stool testing cannot detect IBD

The only two tests for IBD are
    1) necropsy
    2) liver biopsy

both of which are not the sort of thing that you'd want to put your snake through without compelling evidence as to it's need.

on the other hand though, stool testing on any new snake is a prudent course of action. it won't detect IBD but it will detect many other (and much more common) problems.

IBD will kill a python in a month or 2 at most... Boas can carry it and not show symptoms so quarantine is a MUST with any new boa... Its highly unlikely that you get a ball with IBD but that doesnt mean its impossible... Always take precaution with a new snake and quarantine... keep your eye out for anything abnormal.
