    3 dry sheds!

    Hello all,

We have had our bp, Anubis, since Nov 2007. He has shed for us 3 times now and all of them have been dry sheds. I think our humidity is not high enough in the tank. My husband mist it every morning, but not a lot. He read that if it is too damp, he could get blisters on his belly. We have soaked him, sprayed him with shed aid, let him slither through warm damp towels, and are still having problems with him shedding. Last time his eye caps did not come off for over 2 weeks! Please tell me what to do for Anubis. We all love him very much. He is very gentle even when he couldn't see. I want him to be able to shed properly and be happy. Thank you in advance!

many people are gonna ask u what ur temps are at and what ur set up is... along with pics... it will be the best way for them to help u if u are as specific as u can be so they can find out what needs to be changed

When you say dry sheds, what exactly do you mean. As the previous poster said, we need a lot of details and pics are always helpful too.

I think he/she mean not perfect sheds or pices or shed am I right?
If soo I think if you have a aquarium to add cypress mulch and spray 2-3 times a day. Fish tanks dont hold humidity well so I put aluminum foil on top of the screen and it helps hold humidity down and I leave a space for the heat lamp. Try that and I guess that helps....

He shed this morning and he looks like the snake in the "bad shed? No Problem" thread. We are trying the soak they suggested now. The temp is around 88 right now, but we only have a stick on thermometer. It usually is around 92, but we had the lid off when I just went and looked. We keep his lamps on top of it. We are going to order a dual thermometer/hydrometer so we can be more accurate. He is in a 30lt terrarium with a screen on top. We use reptibark for his litter. We have an undertank heater, a heat emitter (60wt) and a daytime uva lamp(75wt)(all zoomed brand). We are feeding him frozen fuzzy mice every 4-5 days. This time only one of his eye caps came off. poor guy...

WOW! that worked like a charm!! we just got him out of the box and only had to rub him with the towel for a few minuets and it all just pealed right off!! Do you suggest for us to get a mister for the tank to keep it more humid in there for him? Will that help for his next shed?

    Re: 3 dry sheds!

Lamps and CHEs will suck humidity out of a cage. The most important heat source is the UTH because "belly temp" is what really effects your snake. If you cover your screen with a few sheets of aluminum foil, and leave a spot for a low wattage bulb (50w) this will help keep humidity. To generate humidity you can do simple things like placing a large water dish over the UTH or under the lamp. A misting or two a day shouldn't soak the substrate enough cause any problems, but with the tips I have suggested (which are things I personally do) you should only have to mist once every couple of days as a sort of booster.

    P.S.
Do you have a thermostat or rheostat for your UTH? Do you have a thermometer with probes to see what your UTH is heating up to?

I spray my snakes a couple times a day not once ever couple of days..... If I did that the cages would be very dry and very hot... So like I said the aluminum foil thing and again try to spary some more... Also like sneakerpro said get a bigger water bowl and put it under the lamp ... My snakes dont like warm/hot water so I usually change the water once every 2 days or soo.....

I don't know what you are using for substrate, but I am using cypress right now and one decent misting goes a looong way.
