Feeding While in Blue
Hello,
I have a quick question hopefully someone can answer. My ball python is getting ready to shed, his eyes are very very blue, so much so you cant see the slant/main part of his eye for the most part. And his stoumach was pink as of yesterday, and is dulled out, and his darker spots are extremely dark, almost makes him look along the lines of a normal BP (hes a pastel).
So anyway, Todays feeding day, and im wondering, Hold off, or attempt. Or make an adjustment, hes 5 months old, about 23", 240g, and eats every friday, last week 2 weanling/adult mice (22g and 29g), and the week before an small Rat (45g). So should i try to feed today, or just wait it out. Hes shed once before with me, but not during feeding time
And how long should i expect before he sheds.
heres a few pics i shot today,

Thanks again,
Ben

Re: Feeding While in Blue
I offer food regardless once a week, most will eat even while in shed, with time you know which one are more prone to refuse when in shed.
You can offer the worse that can happen is a refusal.
You can also skip it won’t hurt him either.
It’s really up to you!

Re: Feeding While in Blue
When we fed this week we had 3 in various stages of the shed cycle. 2 were like yours, the other had her shed about half off her body. All 3 very happily snarfed down their rat, then went back to the business of getting the new skin going.
We offer regardless of shed cycles, some eat, some don't - we leave it up to the snake to decide.
A wonderful sticky on the shedding process....

Re: Feeding While in Blue
My guy has always eaten throughout all phases of shed. He has never seemed reluctant to feed and continues to be the pig that he is

Re: Feeding While in Blue
I usually get refusals only when the shed is the MOST opaque over the eyes. Even then a lot of them eat anyways.
Doesn't hurt to offer, and you can always save it for later.

Re: Feeding While in Blue
He did refuse food, a nice fat 40g mouse, But from what i saw, the eye color got more opaque, and definitally is only a matter of time, i bumped up the humidity, got the mouse some carrotts and from what ive read good dogfood works in a pinch.
Ill wait for the eyes to clear before trying again.
Thanks everyone for telling me it can be done, i just needed to check, but of course my snake thought otherwise. No biggie.
Have a good night,
Ben

Re: Feeding While in Blue
Mine usually eat when in shed but when there is refusal that is the time that it occurs.
