    question for the pros

    I believe a 20 gallon long tank is 30" x 12" or 13" and 12" high.

In your opinion, what is the highest gram ball python that can be kept in this tank before needing a larger tank?

I know many of you prefer tubs.... I have both tubs and tanks.

I may not be a pro, but for me I would go up a size around 1400-1500g.

It's not in grams, but I would say an animal up to about 2.5 feet long.

    Re: question for the pros

unless for the largest females, they can stay in that size for the rest of their life.

BUT, if you want the challenge of a larger enclosure and are willing to sacrifice a few gray hairs, I think they can stay in there until 2300+ grams.

    Re: question for the pros

I would say up to about 1750 grams tops, only due to the fact that if you have a tank, I am assuming you are doing it for asthetic reasons, so therefore want to provide a pretty space as well. Any bigger, and I would go 40 gallons.

I had my first adult female in a 60 gallon, and it was way more space than necessary, but looked really cool.

    Re: question for the pros

I was figuring around 2000 grams...

I know most of you move to the 41 Quart tubs when they are 1500 grams... that tub is like like 34" x 14" or so.... and under 1500 grams you have them in a 32 quart tub that is like 24" X 14" or so....

So i figure a 20 gallon long time is basicly a size right in between ( in floor space) the 32 quart and 41 quart...

    Re: question for the pros

I have my big females in RBI's 3 foot long by 2 foot wide by 1 foot tall reptile cage, and they love it! They are all over that cage every night and I believe allowing them this space is being a good keeper. Just my opinion.
For my smaller snakes and my males, I have 32q tubs and they seem fine for now. I have noticed my larger males zipping around at night and wonder if this size will be large enough for them for ever.......

    Re: question for the pros

Yep, I have a 4x2 RBI cage in waiting for when my female tops either 2.5 feet or 1000g...whichever comes first. Right now, she's in her 20L tank (they're 30x12x12 BTW) and doing great!
For my little male, I'll be keeping him in his 10g until he outgrows it, then moving him to his own homemade 3x2x1 display cage, which will probably hold him his whole life since males stay smaller than females.
