Question New snake, first female, questions.

Hello out there everyone. I've had my male ball python Floyde for somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 1/2 years. I just ordered my first second snake ever. She is a captive hatched normal female with some strong yellows. My question is, how well would she do with my normal male? How long should I let her settle in before I introduce them to each other? Should I introduce them to each other at all? Any information or hints/tips will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

How big are the snakes in question? I would say unless you're ready to breed keep them apart. For the new snake she should have a least a week by herself to get settled and start eating. I would not house them together unless ready for baby snakes just my :2cents:

That's cool. The thing is, I kinda do want babies. Not before I'm ready, but I've been studying and I'm thinking about it. What would you say would be the best way for a beginner to handle breeding/incubating? Again, Thanks!!

Re: New snake, first female, questions.

The thing that helped me the most was finding a breeder close to me and asking ALOT of questions. Going to a breeder and actually seeing what it takes can really help. Also you get to skip some bad problems by learning from their mistakes and their successes. In the end always research, research and then do a little more research Best of Luck with your babies!!!!!

What's the weight and age of this female? Quarantine for a minimum of 60 days. It's generally recommended that females be in their third winter and at least 1500 grams.

Also to add to what Robin said, remember to do some research before breeding (incubation, getting hatchling started, raising feeders etc)

Also breeding does not mean they should be house together permanently.

And again quarantine is VERY important, different enclosure, different room for at least 60 days.

Re: New snake, first female, questions.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'm supposed to get my female at 10:30 tomorrow morning. I can't house them in seperate rooms, but they are in seperate tanks on opposite sides of the room. I have been reading up alot on the breeding and incubating aspect of it though.
On that note, I was wondering if there are any sticky's for incubation stats. like temps, humidity, all that stuff? There are alot of things about homemade incubators, but nothing about the temps or humidity they should be at. I think once I find out what the stats of it are supposed to be at, I would have a better chance of grasping incubation. Thanks again!!
