    Tag team breeding

I have heard a lot of people say that they cycle two males in with one female particularly to get a lazy or younger male to start doing their end of the work.

I was wondering if you do this and say the female is normal and one of the males is an 06 double Het with Axanthic and Albino (Snow) and the other male is a young Pastel Het Albino. What can we say the off spring are? If we do not see any pastel in the offspring can we assume the 06 double het did all the work?

Right now the way I am looking at it is since both are Het for Albino any offspring could be classified as Possible Het Albino. Beyong that the only other thing is if a pastel is born then it is a pastel that is Het for Albino. The Axanthic part from the double het would have to be left out of the equation since you really do not know who the sire is! Does this sound right?

No, it's quite possible that sperm from both males fertilized different eggs. If you do get pastels you can still claim that the normal looking offspring are possible hets for axanthic, but the percentage is pretty low (I think 12.5%). I wouldn't factor that into the price, however it might be useful for the buyer to know.

Yeah - you don't really want to cycle two males through a female unless they are co-doms or the same morph (ie using an albino or het albino to back up an albino)

Unless you want to specifically state that the father of each snake could be Father A or Father B - the only ones you'd know for sure would be any that came out pastel. Which seems to be a hassle - at that point I'd sell them all as normals.

I know what you are saying, but both are het for albino, so regardless of which father sires the children they will all be 50% possible het albino for sure. I may point out that both male A and male B were bred to her and let the buyer choose. I know possible Het Albino does not mean much for males as far as price and only a little for females, but I think the buyer has the right to know all the Sires involved and their history. If they have a specific project in mind and the axanthic gene possibly being there would screw up their project they may decide these snakes are not for them! We are going to probably hold back most of the females to breed back to the double het later anyways in hope of snows, but if we do not get any snows we may prove some of them het for albino then be able to sell them off as proven breeders het for Albino at that time.

This is going to be our first time breeding and we would love to get a visible morph, but the most important thing right now is going through the whole process and having live baby snakes that we can get to eat and make good pets!
